We-Fly is Live
After months of development, We-Fly is officially in alpha. This is the first public release of a tool we built because we needed it ourselves: a modern, no-nonsense flight logbook that actually helps you understand your flying.
If you have ever exported an IGC file and wished there was more you could do with it than just upload it somewhere and forget about it - this is for you.
What We-Fly Actually Does
Upload and Forget (the hard part)
Drag your IGC files into the upload zone. We-Fly handles the rest - parsing, validation, scoring. Multiple files? No problem. Entire folders of old flights you forgot about? Go for it.
XC Scoring That Just Works
Every flight gets scored automatically using the same algorithms as XContest. Free flights, flat triangles, FAI triangles - we calculate the distance and points so you can focus on flying, not spreadsheets.
The Cockpit: Your Personal Analytics Dashboard
This is where it gets interesting. The Cockpit gives you six different views of your flying data:
- Overview: Your total airtime, XC distance, and personal bests at a glance
- By Glider: Compare how you perform on different wings
- By Season: Track your progression year over year
- By Country: See your international flying footprint
- By Takeoff: Which sites give you the best results?
- By Month: Spot seasonal patterns in your flying
Thermal Analysis
The standout feature of this release. For any flight, you can run a detailed thermal analysis that shows:
- Every thermal you found on an interactive map
- Climb rates, duration, and altitude gained per thermal
- Quality scores for each thermal based on multiple factors
- Configurable detection parameters if you want to tweak the algorithm
The thermal map lets you step through your thermals one by one, showing your track overlaid on terrain with color-coded climb/sink visualization. There is playback animation support and the whole thing works on mobile.
Community Features
Flying is social, and so is We-Fly. Browse public flights from other pilots, explore takeoff sites with detailed information, and discover new places to fly. Your profile and flights can be public or private - your choice.
Shareable Flight Links
Want to show off that epic XC? Generate a secure link that lets anyone view your flight - no login required. Perfect for club WhatsApp groups or when someone asks "how was your flight today?"

The Technical Bits (for the curious)
The thermal detection algorithm was built from scratch based on research into thermal characteristics and circling patterns. XC scoring uses the open-source igc-xc-score library by Momtchil Momtchev.
Privacy is taken seriously - we are GDPR compliant with explicit consent flows, data export capabilities, and the right to deletion. Your flight data is yours.
