Share flights and discover the community

We-Fly offers multiple ways to share your flights.

Overview

We-Fly provides two main sharing systems:

  1. Secret Links - Share individual flights privately via unique URLs
  2. Public Profile - Opt-in to make your flights discoverable in the community

Both systems give you control over your privacy while enabling sharing when desired.

Secret Flight Sharing

Secret links allow you to share individual flights with anyone, without requiring them to have a We-Fly account.

How It Works

For you (flight owner):

  1. Open any flight detail page
  2. Click "Create Link" button
  3. Unique URL is generated
  4. Copy link to clipboard
  5. Share link with anyone (email, message, social media)

For recipients:

  1. Click the shared link
  2. View flight without logging in
  3. See full flight analysis and map
  4. No We-Fly account required

Security Features

  • Cryptographically secure - 43-character random ID
  • Unguessable - (almost) Impossible to discover without the link
  • Not searchable - Links don't appear in community or search
  • Permanent - Links remain valid until you delete the flight
  • Revocable - use "remove shared link", "stop sharing" or Delete flight to invalidate link

Recipients can see:

  • Complete flight track on map
  • XContest scoring details
  • All flight statistics and analysis
  • Thermal analysis
  • Wind estimation
  • Takeoff and landing information

Recipients CANNOT see:

  • Your other flights
  • Your profile information
  • Your personal bests
  • Other pilots' flights

Use Cases

When to use secret links:

  • Share specific flight with friends
  • Post flight to social media
  • Send to coach for feedback
  • Share with competition judges
  • Provide to insurance company
  • Archive flight externally

Privacy level: Semi-private (anyone with link can view)

Public Profile & Community

What is a Public Profile?

Enabling your public profile makes your flights discoverable in the We-Fly community, allowing other pilots to see your activity and progress.

Opt-In System

Important: Public profile is opt-in only!

  • Default - All accounts are private
  • To enable - Must explicitly toggle setting in profile
  • Reversible - Can disable at any time

How to Enable Public Profile

  1. Navigate to /profile
  2. Find "Public Profile" setting
  3. Toggle to "Enabled"
  4. Save changes

Your flights are now visible in the community!

What Becomes Public

When you enable public profile:

Your flights - Visible in community flight list Your statistics - Total flights, distances, etc. Your name - Display name from profile Your logbook - Other pilots can browse your flights Flight details - Anyone can view your flight analysis

What Remains Private

Even with public profile:

  • Email address
  • Account settings
  • Private flight notes (if any)
  • Account password

Disabling Public Profile

To go private again:

  1. Go to /profile
  2. Toggle "Public Profile" to disable
  3. Save changes

Effect:

  • Your flights disappear from community listings
  • Existing public share links become inaccessible
  • Your profile becomes private
  • Secret links continue to work

Community Features

Access community features at /community (if you have public profile enabled, or to browse others' public flights).

Community Hub Sections

1. Public Flights (/community/flights)

Browse flights shared by the community:

Features:

  • List of all public flights
  • Filter by date, location, distance
  • Sort by date, distance, score
  • Click to view full flight analysis

What you see:

  • Pilot name
  • Flight date and location
  • XC distance and score
  • Flight type (free, triangle)
  • Duration and max altitude

Click any flight to view:

  • Complete GPS track on map
  • Full flight statistics
  • XContest scoring
  • Thermal analysis

2. Pilots Directory (/community/pilots)

Discover other pilots with public profiles:

Features:

  • List of pilots with public profiles
  • Search by name
  • View pilot statistics
  • Click to see pilot's flight history

Pilot information shown:

  • Pilot name
  • Total flights
  • Total XC distance
  • Best flight statistics
  • Recent activity

Click any pilot to view:

  • Complete flight logbook (if public)
  • Statistics and achievements
  • Flight map (recent flights)

3. Takeoffs Community (/community/takeoffs)

Explore takeoff sites with community activity:

Features:

  • List of takeoff sites
  • See how many pilots fly from each site
  • View public flights from each site
  • Discover popular flying locations

Site information:

  • Site name and location
  • Number of public flights
  • List of pilots who fly there
  • Community flight history

Use cases:

  • Find active flying sites
  • See what others are flying from your local sites
  • Discover new destinations

All community sections include:

  • Date filters - Recent, this month, this year
  • Location filters - By country, region
  • Distance filters - Minimum XC distance
  • Sorting options - Date, distance, score

  • No one can see your flights

For maximum privacy:

  • Don't enable public profile
  • Only share secret links with trusted people
  • Be selective about which flights you share

For community engagement:

  • Contribute to site database
  • Connect with other pilots

Community Guidelines

Respectful Sharing

When sharing flights publicly:

  • Share your own flights only
  • Respect other pilots' privacy
  • Provide accurate information
  • Don't share others' private data
  • Don't misrepresent flights

Data Accuracy

Help maintain data quality:

  • Upload accurate IGC files
  • Ensure GPS data is valid
  • Report any data issues
  • Don't modify IGC files (except allowed metadata)
  • Don't upload fake flights

Safety & Responsibility

Remember:

  • Sharing a flight doesn't guarantee it was safe
  • Other pilots' flights may be beyond your skill level
  • Always assess your own risk
  • Don't attempt flights beyond your ability

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I undo sharing a flight?

Secret links: Delete the flight to invalidate the link. Public profile: Disable public profile to hide all flights.

Can I share only some flights to the community?

Not currently. Public profile makes all flights public. Use secret links for selective sharing.

Can I download other pilots' IGC files?

Yes.

Can I see who viewed my shared flights?

Not currently.

What happens if I delete my account?

All your flights, secret links, and public data are permanently removed.
